Tangerine Dream : Sorcerer soundtrack. I saw this at the Stanley Theater in 1977 on a Friday afternoon. It was in the Summer. The reason I remember was the work schedule I had. We worked weekend shifts and then got the following Friday off. The soundtrack is pretty good. It took a long time before this one was made available on CD. It was worth the wait.

Alvin Lee : RX5. Good solid Rock N Roll ! He and Steve Gould formed a partnership in the late 70's. I saw them tour together a few times. Too bad that Alvin semi retired a few years back. The last time I saw him was in 1996. Nobody rocked like Alvin, except maybe Johnny Winter.

Savoy Brown : Make Me Sweat. Now this is what I call Rock N Roll ! The Boogie Brothers in all their glory. This could serve as an excellent introduction to Savoy Brown. My only complaint : Its wayyyy to short.

Bo Hansson : Lord Of The Rings. This came out in 1971, about the time I read the LOTR trilogy. I ran across the LP of this probably in 1977 or so. What I heard and am hearing again is probably one of the finest instrumental albums available. Hansson is a Swedish multi - instrumentalist. He had a drummer, a sax player and flautist on the album with him. The mood he creates on this CD fits the mood of the books. Well worth investigating. Also check out his Magician's Hat CD.

Peter, Paul and Mary : Album 1700. This is the one with Leaving On A Jet Plane. There are lots of good tunes too. The House Song has always been a particular favorite. I think they were undecided whether they wanted to play Folk music or Pop at the time. There's just times when I need to hear this one for my own twisted sanity.

Gong : Angel's Egg. The second album with Steve Hillage, Tim Blake and Pierre Moerlin. This is part 2 of the Radio Gnome Trilogy. Very spacey, trippy and Very funny. A story about Zero the Hero, Lawrence the Alien and other crazy characters. Really hip Beatnik type jazz. This type of stuff is dangerous for commercial radio friendly individuals. Without proper supervision, it could cause confusion and flabbergastion. Think three or four steps ahead of Pink Floyd in 1967. Various band members were given strange aliases : Submarine Captain, Moonweed, Bloomdido Bad De Grasse, Dingo Virgin, the Good Witch Yoni, Bambaloni Yoni, Venux Deluxe, etc. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nai_medR4QQ

The Mothers : Live At the Fillmore East, June 1971. With Ansley Dunbar, and Flo and Eddie in tow, Zappa recorded this live show. Very heavy on vocal harmonies and off the wall humor, this is not really for the kids. I was 18 and in the Navy before I heard it. This has the legendary Mudshark story and the famous Groupie Routine on it. Funny stuff...... even today.

Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk.
Got tickets to see them on Good Friday! Last fall they toured the UK & performed this entire album for their first set. I'd be up for that if they did it here, too. One of the greatest albums ever made.

Neil Young : After the Gold Rush. Did Neil ever produce a better album ? Well maybe, but this one still gives me goose bumps, especially Birds. Just makes me want to listen to the whole thing again.

That was hilarious Gmac ! Nice stuff.
Just got Deep Purple : In Concert and Rainbow : On Stage. The first disc of the In Concert was mostly noise from 1970. I like synthesizers, but what was on this disc was the kind of stuff Pink Floyd, Yes, and Emerson Lake and Palmer tried to stay away from. Blackmore sounds OK, but again, he was experimenting with feedback in those days. The second disc was all Machine Head live. Kinda glad I didn't spend a lot of money on it.
The live Rainbow was much better.

The Band : Northern Lights Southern Cross. This seemed like as good a place to start as any. Kind of the Band's twilight album but it had some nice tunes on it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RjqcTsxx-8

Yes : Classic Yes. I'm not a big fan of Yes, but this one has all the Yes a young person needs. Too much of their stuff wandered way off into Never Never Land for me. ( Yes Quast, even for me ! ) This is pretty good.
