The Rippingtons : Topaz. This is one I could put the stereo on replay over and over. Really nice light Jazz for a late night.

Nick Gravenites : My Labors and More. Yeah, I know........ another guy none of you has ever heard of. Nick was lead vocalist for the Electric Flag and sang some with Big Brother and the Holding Company ( along with Janis.) OK this CD is a combination of his album My Labors and the stuff he did on the Live At Bill Graham's Fillmore West album. If you were ever interested in the West Coast Blues scene in the late 60's, the Fillmore West CD is an excellent example of what went down. Mike Bloomfield, Nick Gravenites and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Bloomfield shines on this set. Long jams live ( in most cases. ) No video, just music : www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaKCLve_XDswww.youtube.com/watch?v=Shvv7fTRzHQ

Warren Zevon : The Wind. I've been listening to this for 2 days now. Once more, tucked away in the last box, I found this gem. I bought it when it first came out and listened hard and heavy to it. This was the last album he made. He was dying from cancer and told he had 6 months to a year to live. The songs are heavy, really heavy. He does a deeply felt Knockin' On Heaven's Door. His writing reminds me of Dylan's. His voice is just above a whisper, and so effective for an album like this. Won't you stay with me till the end, till there's nothing left but you and me and the wind. We won't know till we try to find the other side of goodbye........ from Please Stay. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-UC8eF-YP8

Warren Zevon : The Wind. His writing reminds me of Dylan's. They were pretty good pals. In a rare move for Dylan, his brief fall 2002 tour, which fortunately passed thru here, was dedicated to the dying Zevon. Each show had 2-3 Zevon covers. The bootlegs from this tour are fairly popular due to the nightly surprises.

Camel : Stationary Traveller. This just builds in intensity. Well worth the price. I kinda wish they'd tour here in the US, but I may as well piss up a rope. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aSBP2eLlxk

Flo and Eddie : Rock Steady With Flo and Eddie. In the mid eighties, Flo and Eddie recorded this Reggae album with the Wailers. I found this in an old box and dug it out. This is the only Reggae album I own. I've heard way too much really awful British Reggae that it put me off. This is really well done. I also checked Professor Flo's website. Just type Mark Volman in the search bar and it'll get you to Professor Flo.

Pink Floyd : Atom Heart Mother. The orchestra and choir on this album put a lot of people off at the time. Even guys in the band itself weren't too thrilled with the outcome. I was listening to the Atom Heart Mother tour on Youtube the other night, and thought it was pretty good. So a little while ago, I found the box with it in. Actually dug out a few old PF CD's to listen to. ( Pre Dark Side of the Moon.) 4 outta 5.

Jefferson Airplane : Worst Of. This was always a favorite of mine. The new copies have added a few bonus tracks, which aren't too bad.

Alvin Lee : Still On the Road To Freedom. New Alvin Lee album. It reminds me a little of On the Road To Freedom from 1973. He's relaxed and in a comfort zone. He can still shred with the best of them despite being almost 70 years old. There's a wide variety of styles on this one, but it all seems to flow together the more you listen to it. From the liner notes, he wrote 33 songs for this album then cut it back to 15 and settled on 13 cuts including a remake of Love Like a Man. I'll give it a 4+ outta 5. www.youtube.com/watch?v=saYHp3P5m5sNot a video really. Just the album cover and the title track.

Leslie West : Live. This is from a 1994 show. Lotsa Blues and a quick run thru of his standards. Some stuff that'll stand your hair on end. 3 piece band. He doesn't need any more people. He even makes a stab at Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. Mostly 7 - 8 minute tunes. This would be a heck of an introduction to Leslie West. 4 1/2 outta 5. Also picked up an old Camel CD. I Can See Your House From Here. I haven't listened to it yet.

Peter Bardens : The Answer. Peter Bardens was the keyboard player for Camel. In 1969 he got together with Peter Green from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and did this album. Lotsa Blues and wah wah pedal. I saw it in the pile and grabbed it this morning. Great stuff. 4 outta 5.

Jimi Hendrix : Band Of Gypsies. The one on Capitol Records. The original one. Machine Gun still sends shivers up and down my spine. The story I heard was that Hendrix asked Bill Graham how he liked the first show. Graham said it was OK. Hendrix wanted to know what was wrong with it . Graham told him that if he'd just play and do away with the theatrics, ,it would have been better. Hendrix was shocked. In those days, they did 2 shows a night. The last 3 shows, he stood still and just cooked.

Ian Hunter : When I'm President. Good Time Rock n Roll. Reminds me of Mott the Hoople in their hay day. For a guy 73 years old, Ian Hunter still writes and plays songs worth listening to. www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5wbw0uPQoM
