Bob Dylan : Planet Waves. All in all, a pretty good effort. It's good to hear Dylan and the Band together. I think Robbie was the only person who understood what Dylan was trying to get across. I always got the impression that Levon Helm didn't care for Dylan all that much, but I could be wrong.

Check out Levon's book some time---one of the best rock-n-roll books I've ever read, BTW---& you'll find that he & Bob got along real well. It's Robbie whom Levon doesn't care for.

Deep Purple : Made In Japan. This album never gets old, except for the extended drum solo. I recently read an interview with Blackmore, and was shocked to discover that DP is NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME !!! WTF ? ....OVER. The interviewer asked him if DP were inducted, would he get up on stage and play with them. His answer was that he wouldn't even show up, because he thinks things like that are ludicrous at best.
Its been almost 40 years since Smoke On The Water. How far do the deciding forces have their heads up their collective keesters ?

Blodwyn Pig : Ahead Rings Out. Let's start with the cover: a pig with sunglasses, wearing headphones, and smoking a joint. I had this on LP at one time. What it is, is British Blues complete with a horn section. Good singing, good songs. Translation......... they went nowhere.

Alvin Lee & Ten Years After : Pure Blues. An excellent compilation put together by Alvin himself. Particular favorite : Bluest Blues. Written by Alvin and George Harrison. ( Who also appears on the cut to add some guitar. ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKWL1TJeEZcThe video on this is really good. Enjoy..........

King Crimson : Ladies Of The Road. This is a live album from their 1972 tour. Combine this one and Earthbound and you pretty much have the whole show. Nice experimental Jazz. Too bad the singer and the drummer are both dead now. The second disc of this collection is different versions of 21st Century Schizoid Man. An interesting collection.

Larry Carlton : Sapphire Blue. Most of this is pretty good, whenever he isn't trying to sound like BB King. BB p*ssed me off about 20 years ago by trying to overproduce the gift that he has. Of course, maybe it isn't his fault. Damn record producers just have to get their grimy hands into things. I'd sooner hear Carlton play Jazz.

A Steve Hillage CD I burnt for Quast. I like to check my work, plus the computer has been acting up when I burn a disc. I just got done cleaning the laser lens. So far, everything sounds good. I used the new remastered discs with bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are what interest me.

Talking Heads : The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Disc 2 1980 -1981. This is a great live album. I like this disc because Adrian Belew is playing with the band. A few songs from Fear of Music are on this one. Adrian Belew adds a whole different dimension to the music.

Peter Paul and Mary : Flowers and Stones. This was done in 1980. It almost reminded me of how they were in the beginning, before they jumped on Grossman's bandwagon and became hit makers. They do 2 Dylan covers ; It Ain't Me Babe and I Shall Be Released. They did I Shall Be Released on their album Late Again back in 1968. I'm not sure which version I like better. I really like this album.

Gram Parsons : GP / Grievous Angel. These two albums along with what he did with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers defined what was to become Country Rock. Really beautiful music and lyrics.

Buddy Guy and Junior Wells : Alone and Acoustic. This was always a solid partnership. They worked together so well. This was a change for them. Most of their collaborations were electric. This brings to mind Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, John Cephas and Phil Wiggins, and Hammy Nixon and Sleepy John Estes. Really nice stuff.

Emerson Lake and Palmer : Tarkus. The first time I heard this, a bunch of us were drivng through the Italian Alps on the way to Brindisi from Naples. The guitar solo in " Battlefield " made my hair stand on end. ( It still does.)
