I needed a Denny Freeman fix, so I'm listening to Dylan's concert at Sun City West, AZ on 4/8/06, Denny's 2nd tour with His Bobness. Denny could play the same song every night for 500 years & come up with a different guitar solo every time. If you're gonna listen to as many Dylan concerts as I do, Denny is a guy who wears well.

Merle Haggard : 40 Greatest Hits. We used to go drinking and listen to Merle. This brings back some pretty bizarre memories of drunken displays better left unmentioned. Ever wake up on someone else's porch hungover ?

"Spider" John Koerner, Dave "Snaker" Ray, & Tony "Little Son" Glover - Blues, Rags & Hollers (1963). John Lennon famously held this album up when asked by a TV interviewer what he was listening to lately. Glover looks like Chip from My Three Sons.

I had a friend who had that and McKenna Mendelson Mainline on LP. I copied them onto a cassette, but wore the cassette out over the years. My friend died in the early 90's and his wife got rid of all his LP's and 8 tracks. He never did cross over to cassette or CD. I just sent for McKenna Mendelson Mainline's Stink album. It took a long time for them to make a CD available. I'm listening to the Rippingtons : Wild Card. Ever since Russ Freeman moved to Miami, he continues to sound like a jazzy Miami Sound Machine type salsa band. I liked the way they used to sound much better.

The Blasters : Trouble Bound. Nice, tight 50's style R&R. Similar to the Stray Cats. Stand up bass, greasy hair....... just what Doc SJ ordered.

Lightnin' Hopkins - Blues in My Bottle. My favorite bluesman. I have more Lightnin' albums than anybody has a right to own.

Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, & Steve Stills - Super Session. Seemed like a foolish title at the time (1968) coz these guys weren't exactly household names, but today it's an apt title. It's been oft imitated, but never surpassed. It's the best playing by the late Bloomfield ever captured on record. The Count calls it the Stupid Session.

A little late to the game in finding Pandora radio. Now listening to a nice selection of hair bands.

Ramblin' Jack Elliott - I Stand Alone. Truest title ever for an album.

I only have one problem with this album.......... Steve Stills. His version of Season of the Witch really galls me. Of all the people available at the time, why him ? I much prefer the Live Adventures album. I think the best I ever heard Mike Bloomfield play was on Live At the Fillmore West. I'm listening to Acoustic Alchemy : Sounds of San Lucia.

I only have one problem with this album.......... Steve Stills. His version of Season of the Witch really galls me. Of all the people available at the time, why him ? Unquestionably, the Bloomfield side of the album is far superior to the Stills side, but I like the whole album. I like what Stills brings to "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry." It's like 2 different albums to me---the Bloomfield side being more the jam session, the Stills side being more of a "conventional" album cept for the long jam on "Season of the Witch," which, BTW, is also the Count's least favorite song on the album. Why Stills? The intent was to have Bloomfield play on the whole thing, but he was an unreliable heroin addict. He disappeared after the first day without any advance warning. Only 2 days of studio time were booked so the rest of the album had to be recorded on the second day. Stills lived nearby & was available. This per Kooper's book, Backstage Passes & Backstabbing Bastards.
