In a movie theatre: Date Night. 10/10. Very funny, & it doesn't hurt that they borrowed the "mistaken identity" theme of my all-time favorite flick, North by Northwest.
On TV: Gran Torino. I usually don't care for Clint Eastwood, but this one was 9.5/10. Disturbing ending.

I thought GRAN TORINO was one Eastwood's best films. I agree with you on that ending...Walt Kowalski defines "bravery" and "valor". Loved the very final scene, where Walt's uncaring family, get what they derserve

I liked the final scene, too. The granddaughter really wanted that car!

SURROGATES-2009
The film takes place in the near future, where 98% of society lives vacariously through avatars-(human looking robots). Bruce Willis is an FBI agent-(his avatar is a younger looking version of himself)-who uncovers a plot, where people are being killed, through their avatars-(which defeats the purpose of having one). Willis narrowly escapes death, when his avatar is destroyed, and now must learn to function, like a normal person.
Decent film, but it could've been better. Seemed rather short to me, the end credits start rolling at 80 minutes. Willis is his typcal self-(battered hero defying the odds). Nice supporting cast features Rosamund Pike-(yum!), Rhada Mitchell, James Cromwell, and Ving Rhames.
MY rating 2.5/5, worth a look

The Jackie Robinson Story, starring Jackie as himself. Purchased at Incredibly Strange Video a few years ago but just watched for the first time last night. Corny & dated but bursting with nostalgia. Full of bad acting---of course, Jackie wasn't a professional actor, but what are the others' excuses? Very cool to see Ebbetts Field.
I rate it: 10/10 for nostalgia 4/10 for plot 4/10 for acting Nets out to 6/10

YES, MADAM - 1985 Hong Kong action film pairs up Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock, with mixed results. One would think that having these two beautiful and talented women, playing cops, taking on the bad guys, might be fun to watch. Well it is, but unfortunately they're not given so much screen time. Instead, we get a bumbling trio of pety criminals, who are trying to collect enough money, to get their uncle-(played by Sammo Hung)- out of hospital ward, and into his own place. A noble gesture, but these guys are idiots, and the viewer is held hostage by numerous scenes of slapstick comedy, that's waaaay out of place. Good fight scenes, plenty of brutal gunplay, but it leaves something to be desired. The slapstick isn't just not funny, it's annoying My rating 2/5, just for the action.

KING KONG - 2005 It's been a while since I've watch this Peter Jackson remake. No need to rehash the story, since I'm sure mosy everyone knows it already. I was most impressed with performances by the cast. Jack Black plays Carl Denham in a fun, manical sort of way. I had two problems with the movie. The CGI Kong lacks the charm of Willis O'Brien's stop-motion gorilla, and the film is a bit too long, at three hours. Other than that, I liked it. It was good to see again My rating 4/5, an overall fun movie-(loved the bug scene)

Iron Man 2
Bit of a let down. Very surprising considering there was alot of cool stuff i liked in it. The story was alright and i thought all the acting was great but there was just something about it that left me disappointed. Big drop off from the first movie.
2.375 outta 5.

STREET FIGHTER : THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI - 2009
I didn't expect much, given the reviews I'd read of this. The movie still managed to thoroughly disappoint me. How bad is it? Kristen Kreuk was terribly miscast as Chun-Li. In the Capcom video game, Chun-Li is a superior Kung Fu artist, with breathtaking moves. In this movie, Kreuk-(and her obvious stunt-double)- do more running, jumping and Judo moves, more than anything else. The scenes where she does actually kick someone, are shot in slow motion....every time. Yep, they made a movie about Chun-Li, and treated the action choreography like they were making "Charlie's Angels". There isn't a single satisfying fight scene, in the entire movie. Director Andrezej Bartkowiak needs to stick to cinematography. He has no clue, when it comes bringing a video game character to life. For the record I also greatly disliked another film he directed "Craddle 2 The Grave", which paired Jet Li with rapper DMX-(huh?) The *only* thing this film did well was casting Neal McDonough and Michael Clarke Duncan as the bad guys.
My rating 0.5/5 just for the bad guys. Avoid....

SPECIES - 1995
Wow, it's been 15 years already, since this movie came out? Let's see, Marg Helgenberger has gone onto success with the CSI tv series, Forest Whitaker seems to make 5 or 6 movies each year, ditto for Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina was impressive as Dr.Octopus in SPIDERMAN 2, and Michael Madsen is *still* Michael Madsen-(fun actor to watch, but he's always the same). Then there's alien-babe Natasha Henstridge, who's appeared in two Species sequels, as well as Carpenter's Ghost Of Mars. And Whip Hubley?...Ok, I won't go that far.
This is still a fun scfi flick, with plenty of flawed logic.
My rating 4/5, is it just me, or is Forest Whitaker's gimpy left eye positively hypnotic? I can't stop looking at it!

IRON MAN 2 -2010
Since this is *new*, I'll try not to spoil it, for anyone. I didn't expect it be better than the first film, but I was entertained by it. Maybe the editing was to blame, but I felt Mickey Roake was just a bit under-used. Nice to see a faction of our government, make the same exact mistake, that the Al-Qaede made, in the first film-(?). Looking forward to seeing Iron Man/ Tony Stark in the AVENGERS movie, whenever that happens.
My rating 4/5, good movie.

2012 - (2009)
Here's a big budget disaster flick, that would've given the late Irwin Allen wood. Yep, it's Airport, Eathquake, The Towering Inferno and The Poseiden Adventure all wrapped up, in one three hour film. I enjoyed it, but damn, Amanda Peet sure was annoying! Had her character died, I would have stood up and cheered.
My rating 2.5/5, not bad....

I'm not sure how she continues to land roles. Maybe it was her willingness to take off her shirt in so many of her earlier films. That was annoying as well. One of the few times I've wanted a woman's shirt to be put back on when watching a movie.

THE NEW DAUGHTER - 2009
Kevin Costner, along with his teen daughter and 7 year old son, move into a new home. It's an older house, that has a bit of an unfornate history-(which Costner gradually discovers). There's ,what appears to be, an old Indian burial mound, not far from the house. The daughter starts hanging out around it far too often, and she begins to change. Turns out there are some beasties lurking in the woods at night, as well. I won't say anything more, about what happens. I will say that I read a review by Uncle Creepy at Dread Central, praising the film, and found myself strongly disagreeing with it.
I suppose if you're a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's films, then you probably would enjoy it. For me, it was too slow and didn't have enough going for it. Death scenes take place off-screen, there's hardly any on-screen violence or bloodshed-(cheap thrills are almost non-exsistant), The acting was good, but that alone, couldn't save it. Cool monsters, but too bad they are hardly shown, and not until the ending scene....tttthhhhbbbbpppp :-P
My rating 1/5, yawn....
