Dark City: Director's Cut
Poor Dark City. The movie was a victim of several release changes, studio editing, and the fact that it really became forgotten when The Matrix came out a year later. (The two movies have some similar plot points, but the approachs are so different that I can't join the camp that accuses The Matrix of ripping this movie off.)
Whatever the problems, Dark City is a really cool mix of sci-fi and flim noir. A man wakes up in a room with no memory of who is only to find he's sharing the space with a dead prostitute. And to make matters even more bizarre, people fall asleep at the stroke of midnight...except for the tall, pale guys in black chasing him through the city.
This new version adds over half an hour of scene extensions, including a new character in a little girl who ends up creating a drawing that explains another character's change of heart much better than the theatrical version. It also gets rid of an opening narration that pretty much spoils the plot right from the start.
The original version was the second DVD I ever bought, and it was a nice special edition. This version carries over the Roger Ebert commentary (he chose Dark City as his top movie of 1998, believe it or not) and throws in two documentaries that clock in at about 90 minutes together. Definitely worth picking up.

Coraline. Eh. 1.5/5 My biggest problem with this movie was they obviously want both the child and adult dollars. This led to a weak story in my opinion. I would have preferred a strong kids story or a darker adult story. Not a balancing act because they are worried they won't make enough dollars by satisfying one group or the other.

Ratatouille. Wow what a great movie. So cute and sweet. I loved this movie. I really felt for the characters. It helps that I am an animal lover. No matter real, fiction, or cartoon. If it moves, I feel for it. I would watch this agian. Great morals and great story. Just plain fantastic.

I'm a huge Pixar nerd, and even I was surprised by how much I loved Ratatouille. First cartoon to make me hungry, too.

Watchmen!
How do I put this?
I will not say that fans of the comic will love it. And I won't say it will win over those who've never read the book. That's based on reviews I've read all over the place, with reactions very split. It seems to be the love it or hate it movie of the year.
So the following is truly personal opinion: I loved it. There are a few changes I'm not thrilled with, but there's more that I could live with, and -- believe it or not -- there's two instances where it's actually better than the comic book. One involves the way a character is portrayed; there's a nuance to the actor/actress' performance that makes this particular character better than in the book. And another's final moment is given a sadness that, to me, doesn't quite come across in the book but works beautifully here.
So there's my non-review. It blew me away, but I completely understand others' gripes, fans or not.

yes, i really liked Watchmen too. it's not your typical 'superhero movie' that we've been accustom to in the past years. which in my opinion is what makes this movie good. i never read the book but the movie worked great for me.
