•Horror Realm Film Festival – May 22-25 at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont. In addition to the film screenings, panels on film making, makeup and special effects will be included. Short and feature film entries have been received from across the country as well as the UK. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.showclix.com/event/hrff14. The event schedule is as follows:
oOpening reception – 8 PM on Thursday, May 22
oScreenings/panels – 10 AM to midnight on Friday, May 23; 10 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, May 24 and 11 AM to 2 PM on Sunday, May 25

•Animal Screening – Horror Realm teams up with Chiller Films to bring Animal, the new release produced by Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films, to the Hollywood on June 17 and 18. The film focuses on a group of close-knit friends who find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a menacing predator. Stars include Eve, Keke Palmer, Amaury Nolasco, Parker Young, Joey Lauren Adams, Elizabeth Gillies, Paul Iacono, Thorsten Kaye, and Jeremy Sumpter. Brett Simmons (The Monkey’s Paw) directs and the film was written by Thommy Hutson (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy), who appeared at Horror Realm’s 2013 fall convention. For more information on Animal, visit the official web site at www.donotfeedtheanimal.com/.
•Odorama with Mink Stole Appearance – This special presentation on June 21 includes a screening of one of director John Waters’ most popular films, Polyester, plus an appearance by Mink Stole, one of Waters’ Dreamlanders ensemble of regular cast members. “Odorama” are scratch-and-sniff cards invented by John Waters for use along with his film Polyester. They are extremely rare and none are currently in production. The Hollywood's staff scoured the globe and tracked down some in a theater in the U.K. that had some in storage. There will be a special VIP meet and greet with Ms. Stole at 5 PM followed by an autograph signing at 6 PM. The film will begin at 8 PM and Ms. Stole will participate in a Q&A session right after the screening. Q&A will be hosted by former Miss Gay Pittsburgh and current host of Shadyside’s weekly Bingo with a Twist event, drag personality Marsha Mellow. The evening concludes with a screening of Waters’ Mutiple Maniacs. Tickets are available at www.thehollywooddormont.org/.
•Horror Fan Flea Market – the popular free event returns to the Hollywood on July 27 from 10 AM to 2 PM. The flea market allows fans to clear out their old horror VHS movies, DVDs, figures, posters, t-shirts and other merchandise to find a loving home with other horror fans. Nonprofessional vendors interested in purchasing a space may contact Horror Realm at info@horrorrealmcon.com. There will also be a bake sale and the concession stand will be open. Film screenings follow and will be announced at a later date.
•Day of the Dead Reunion – Horror Realm’s fall convention moves from September to August 15-17 in 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South. This year’s show features a special reunion of cast members of George Romero’s Day of the Dead, filmed partially at the underground mines of Wampum, PA in 1985. The reunion is the first time the announced cast members have appeared together at a Pittsburgh convention, and a first time Pittsburgh appearance for some. Cast members scheduled to appear are: Joe Pilato, Terry Alexander, Lori Cardille, Gary Klar and Howard Sherman. The convention will also feature actor Lew Temple (The Walking Dead) and J. La Rose (Insidious) as guests. More guests are expected to be announced soon.
Horror Realm is also working out details on a special 35mm screening of George Romero’s Creepshow and the return of 13 Hours of Horror during the fall.
