For those of you who describe your interest in baseball as casual or "none," he's Jason Heyward, a #1 draft pick of the Braves, who won the starting RF job in spring training at the age of 20. He impressed with his tape-measure homers in spring training games. Many not only left the stadium, but cleared the parking lot behind the stadium. One shattered the roof of a greenhouse, costing the Braves $34,000. Others damaged cars. Eventually fans & Braves personnel simply stopped parking there.
Mets & Braves play on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball tonight at 8:00. It'll be the first time I & many others will get a look at Heyward. It's been rough being a Pirate fan these past 17 years, but it's opportunities to watch players like this that keeps me coming back to baseball year after year.
