Conan quits "The tonight Show" www.mtv.com/news/articles/1629532/20100112/story.jhtmlI have been a big Conan fan since the beginning. I was not happy about his move to LA and I gave the Jay Leno show one year! I am surprised that it only lasted a half of a year. I would rather see scripted drama at 10pm. Obviously so does everybody else. I hope Conan will get another late night show and moves back to NYC! It would be a great loss to see him leave late night all together!

I would guess Conan will get another show if he want's one. NBC has disrupted more peoples lives for Jay Leno, going back to Letterman and really I think Leno is the least talented guy they have had on the network.

Leno has his moments but I agree that he is the weakest of the bunch. I watched his 10pm show maybe 3 times and I love "Headlines" and some of his other bits, but his interviews with the guests were boring. He seems tired and unhappy with the show. They should have just left things alone! I HATE that Conan had to move to LA. I feel bad that he had to up route his family. Also, think about all the money that was spent into building the studio at Universal and all of the people that will now lose their jobs.

Leno has a few good features, but to me his standup is pedestrian at best. His jokes are weak, timid, and corny. Letterman is still sharp as a razor, and Conan is hilariously goofy despite having been a host for 17 years now. Part of his charm is how awkward he's remained, and how unabashedly nerdy he is. He's been kind of the poster boy for nerd/geek chic for a decade and a half, so I think that, yet again, the stupid-ass no-talent suits have fucked up a perfectly good thing. Conan won't suffer, because he can do just about anything he wants to do now. He can do something completely different if he wants...

Leno never did a lot for me, but I respect the fact that he has a lot of good personal qualities, having been in the spotlight for a long time while married to the same woman, avoiding scandals, & being generous to charities. I find Letterman & Conan funny at times. With Letterman, however, there are so many recurring jokes that if you can't watch him every night, it's easy to feel like an outsider when you do watch him.
In any event, I find it difficult to even stay up that late any more & for me late night TV died when Johnny Carson retired. When Johnny was host of The Tonight Show, it had a gee-what's-gonna-happen-next quality that late night TV hasn't had since. I read an interview with the lady from the San Diego Zoo who was a frequent guest of Johnny's, bringing animals on the show. She was asked why she never appears with Leno or Letterman & she said that they don't want her on, coz animals are unpredictable. Apparently Leno & Letterman like a carefully-scripted show where they know exactly what's gonna happen & who's gonna say what.
The best times for late night were when Johnny was followed by Tom Snyder.
And that's tonight's sermon.

What will become of little Jimmy Fallon? As far as I know things are not going to change with his show.

Just kiddin'. I liked Carson; grew up with him onna TV, I did. Totally iconic, but comedy as a whole has moved on from the set 'em up, shoot 'em down style of the 50's and 60's. It's not necessarily better (that being an opinion or value judgement), but certainly different. I wouldn't expect younger people to find Karnak amusing any more than I would expect my dad to comprehend Metalocalypse (or anything else on [adult swim] for that matter). Differ'nt strokes, y'all.

Wow. I didn't think this was gonna happen. I watch Conan almost every night! I know that NBC is having trouble now but WTF? i'm hoping this is just a rumor of sorts because it'd be totally idiotic for NBC to move The Tonight Show and/or lose Conan O'Brien. I got nothing against Leno or Letterman, they still have their moments but, Conan is by far the best Late Nite host. I was so excited when he took over The Tonight Show and I love Jimmy Fallon afterwards too. I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope things get worked out. I HATE that Conan had to move to LA. I feel bad that he had to up route his family. Also, think about all the money that was spent into building the studio at Universal and all of the people that will now lose their jobs. I wouldn't say he HAD to move to L.A. He's been dreaming of that opportunity since he got into Late Nite. That was his ultimate goal to host The Tonight Show. You make it sound like he was forced to go to California and that simply was not the case. And as far as the money goes, that's NBC's problem. It appears they made promises they couldn't keep so screw 'em.

Yes, he always wanted to host The Tonight Show but when this deal was first announced there was talk about him staying in NYC but NBC would not go for it. From what I've read about this, Conan would have preferred to stay in NYC.
