What a bummer. Plus Airplane. He played some good straight roles too, like an appearance on Columbo once. Funny, talented guy.

The QB who "couldn't win the big one." Of course, the Lombardi Packers had a lot to do with that!
Today's broadcasters take the game too seriously & really need to watch some tapes of Dandy Don on the original MNF. Imagine Troy Aikman or Phil Simms bursting out into song during a broadcast!

Don Van Vliet also known as Captain Beefheart. The first time I heard Beefheart, was on Zappa's Hot Rats album. He sang Willie the Pimp. This was in late 70. A few years later, a friend lent me a copy of Beefheart's Strictly Personal and told me to do something while I listened. I started picking things up and organizing and, for some reason, things actually got done. I hated doing things like that, but that album just kept pushing me to get more done. I picked up a few more of his albums and kept them for when I had to do something I hated. It always made the job easier. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101218/ap_en_mu/us_obit_captain_beefheartProbably the most accessible album he made was Bluejeans & Moonbeams.

Thanks Miss Dee. I only saw a casual mention of it on Yahoo news yesterday. They didn't even give a date, just 2010. What info I got, I got from Wikipedia. Its too bad that he wasn't more popular. Instead we get a blow by blow account of Lindsay Lohan's drug rehab. As Zappa once stated in an interview, " There's no accounting for taste."

Don Kirshner. A Rock icon. I missed most of his Rock Concerts on TV, due to being in UnGodly places with either no TV, foreign TV, or Armed Forces Network. What the article doesn't mention is that he wrote all or most of the Monkees' hits. news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110118/ap_en_mu/us_obit_don_kirshner

Chuck was the best manager I ever saw in baseball & a great guy. I met him a couple times & he loved talking to fans. He actually listened as tho' he was hearing the most interesting thing in the world. He genuinely enjoyed looking thru the scorebook I kept of the '79 season.
Everything he did turned to gold in '79, whether it was Milner's grand slam to beat the Phillies, Teke catching the pop fly in LF, or starting 4-game winner Jim Rooker in game 5 of the Series against the eventual AL Cy Young winner.
