dude, he has to *hear* you say 'why don't you take that phone call outside' to be able to pass judgment. i'm just sayin. I'm thinking Pointy can guess the tone. Plus I'm trying to get someone on my side. The rest of you can bite me.

I've had more than my fair share of theater horror stories -- Incredible Hulk, anyone? -- but I'd be lying if I said I've had some good ones lately, too. I think it depends on the movie and most certainly when you go. For instance, the midnight show of Dark Knight when it debuted was one I thought was gonna be an utter catastrophe with all the teens (and parents who actually brought toddlers), but once the movie rolled, the only noise came at the moments that deserved a reaction. I like Brad and Akasha's advice, because that seems to be when the true moviegoers show up. The ones who dig the experience and avoid disrupting it for others. Not always the case. When Akasha and I went to see Last House on the Left it was 10 PM on a Thursday. 6 of us total in the theater. Jackass guy in the row behind me is talking on his cell phone when the movie has started. Which takes me to a question for Pointy. When this jackass was talking on his cell phone during the movie I turned to him and said "why don't you take that phone call outside." I've been told that my words were a bit harsh, I could have said please take it outside. I totally disagree and feel as though I was overly nice. I should have told him to take it outside before I shove it up his ass. Anyway Pointed one you and I feel the same way about human beings a lot of the time. Do you find my wording used to be rude or harsh? Heh. It's like "Ask Pointy" on here now. When it comes to stuff like this, I'm far less polite. Ang will verify that I get to "shut the fuck up" very quickly. I would have given the guy a few minutes to finish his call, and if he'd just continued to blather on, I would have probably gone straight to "get off the phone. Now." I've done that before. Fuck people. This is why I don't go to see movies in theaters very often. Sooner or later I'll open my mouth to the wrong person, or the wrong person will open his mouth to me, I will hurt him very badly and subsequently go to prison for what amounts to nothing of any consequence. There are way more rude, impolite, childish assholes on this planet than there are people like me, so I just try to play the numbers. With the rapidity of most films' transition to on demand or DVD, it's really not worth even going to the theater anymore...

Well, this movie seems to be ruffling some feathers. Don't uderstand why since this movie wasn't that great. The movie to some is considered to be on the level of Rami's classics, which couldn't be farther from the truth. Rami seemed to try mixing serious with a little bit of his cult style of Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. Which is fine to each their own, but this movie cannot be compared or even considered to be in the same category as Evil Dead or Army of Darkness.

Just tried to watch a bootleg copy of this that my brother-in-law sent from Iraq. Unwatchable. Guess I'll have to wait.

Which tells me that your standards for entertainment have reached the lowest possible level. So I'm not sure the two of you can really debate the quality of this movie.

I love horror movies, especially Evil Dead and Army of Darkness. But, I can't give Rami a free pass just because he gave us some real classics in the past.

Please quit using the "his old stuff/new stuff comparison" as the basis of your arguement. those movies were from a different time. let it go. no one's comparing those classics with this in the way you might be thinking. it's just that, like alot of creative directors, Raimi has a certain way to his stories. his own style. THAT'S the comparison. and that's the goodness of the film... the weird story, bad acting, cheesy effects, they're are all a part of the ride and he had the balls to stick with it in 2009. if there was CGI in 1981, he would've used it then too. plus, you can't expect Raimi to try and find a lead like Bruce Campbell ever again and he would've been crucified for even trying to do so. so considering his options, i thought he did well. i didn't get the impression that he was trying to out do or recreate his classics. it's just the way he does his horror and it was refreshing to see it again, instead of the same old same old today. if you don't understand or enjoy that, then you've simply out grown his style of horror and that's not his fault, is it?

I think the old stuff/new stuff arguement is fair in this case considering Rami himself said this was a return to his low budget horror roots. That decleration alone is going to open the door to most people comparing old vs. new. I like that he tried to do horror the way he always has done it but I think he underestimated how CGI would come across in the final edited form. The grittiness of a Rami horror film was missing. He also got stuck with bad good actors. As opposed to good bad actors. Not sure if that makes sense. What I mean is that the actors he had for Drag Me to Hell I believe see themselves as big time Hollwood but they aren't that good. It comes out in the movie and makes it less enjoyable. The good bad actors like Bruce didn't seem to take themselves that seriously and it delivered some great performances. I didn't find any of this refreshing. All I was wondering was when Spiderman 4 would be made because Rami has lost his touch when it comes to making small time horror.
