Strange Brew : The Adventures of Bob and Doug McKenzie. I know its an old movie. Time to fess up........ the last movie I saw in a movie theater was Army of Darkness. I worked in a movie theater when I was in high school. Ticket prices then were $1.25. I'm sorry but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay the exorbitant prices they charge to see a movie these days. You can buy a DVD for about the same price you pay to go see one in the movie theater. Anyway, the movie was silly, but what do you expect from these guys ? Like they say, 3 beers and it looks pretty good. Hose-a-Rama......... ;D

"Welcome to the Great White North, eh"
I like Bob & Doug MacKenzie. STRANGE BREW is a fun movie, especially if you liked thier skit on SCTV. A few days ago, I spent an afternoon watching SCTV on disc-(I have the first 4 sets). I miss that show....

Went to see Iron Man II last night. Wanted to see it in a theater. Glad I did (even though the surround sound kept fading in and out). Some things were better than the first (battle scenes were fantastic!), some things worse (I thought Stark got over the reckless, downwardly spiraling behavior in the last film?). Two minor gripes: a good supporting cast was somewhat underutilized, and the overwrought scenes with Stark and his late father. Over all, I liked it every bit as much as the first. Loved the "prop cameos" (Cap's shield, Thor's hammer). Pumped a bit more blood into my Avengers boner.
Still waiting for my Hulk movie...

ALICE IN WONDERLAND - 2010
I'm quite pleased this wasn't a typical Disney kiddie flick. My wife damn near ordered me, to pick up this disc, and I didn't regret it. Tim Burton's film is a visual treat. The story has Alice returning to Wonderland as a young adult, with no memory of ever being there before-(when she was a child). All the odd residents of Wonderland remember her though. I can't say that the story itself was all that rivetting, but it held my attention. I particilarly liked the CGI creatures voices by Alan Rickman-(Blue Catapillar), Stephen Fry-(Cheshire Cat), and Christopher Lee-(the Jabberwocky, at the end of the film). Helena Bonham Carter was perfectly cast the the Red Queen. The only character I didn't really care for, was Johnny Deep as the Mad Hatter. His dialogue was jibberish, and didn't have any of the charisma, that Deep's characters usually display. It's still a worthwhile film. especially if you enjoy Tim Burton's work.
My take 3.5/5, sufficiently bizarre, and surprisingly violent, in parts.

Finally got around to watching "A Serious Man." What a POS! I have finally replaced "The English Patient" as my worst overrated movie. By the time this nonsense was done, I was literally sitting there saying "WTF!" to my TV.

Avatar. It's ok. Great CGI. Sort of a unique story line. Meaning a slightly common storyline with a bit of uniqueness thrown in. All in all not bad. To long but not bad at all.

UNLEASHED - 2005
This would be the "Jet Li movie you show, to someone who doesn't usually watch Jet Li movies", if that makes sense? The plot- set in Glasgow, Scotland, Bob Hoskins plays a hood, who shakes down local businesses. If you refuse too pay him, he takes the collar off Danny-(Jet Li) - who will proceed to beat everyone to death. Danny was raised by Hoskins, like an attack dog. A turn of events, allows Danny to escape, and befriend Morgan Freeman and his step-daughter, Danny learns what its like to actually be treated like a human. After several feel-good moments, Danny's past catches up with him. Superb movie from start to finish. Jet Li can *act*.
My take 5/5, good story, and lots of well choreographed fight scenes.

On a bit of a classic western binge. Watched Bud Boetticher's Tall T recently. Randolph Scott and Richard Boone. Great no-frills western. Tight ensemble cast. Simple story, simply told. Loved it. Gonna watch Brando's One-Eyed Jacks next.
I also received a double dose of blaxploitation for my birthday: Black Shampoo and Black Gestapo! Can't wait to torment the girlfriend with these two! Rich, Akasha...Annie's gonna hate you!

THE BLACK HOLE - 1979
Disney's first PG rated film-(and the one of the few Disney films I own). Fairly simple scfi plot, astronauts encounter massive spaceship that had been missing for 20 years. Our crew of characters include the captain Robert Forester, Yvette Mimieux, Joseph Bottoms, Ernest Borgnine and Anthony Perkins.....(Anthony Perkins in a Disney film?...OK). The lost spaceship is inhabited by the evil genius Dr. Hans Reinhardt, played by Maximilian Schell....who has a powerful, evil robot named Maximilian-(huh?). Thin on story, heavy on special effects. My favorite parts would be the scenes with the good robots, voiced by Roddy McDowell and Slim Pickins. This was fun to watch again.
My take 3.5/5, rather dark for a Disney film, which is part of the reason I enjoy it.

Strange Brew!!! What an awesome movie. I wish I could count as high as the amount of times I've watched that movie. Just dug it out about a month ago. I could probably recite the whole thing. Good call SJ782. Beauty.
The Last movie I saw that I though was worthy of this discussion was Law Abiding Citizen. If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it.
The Last Movie I watched though was a Mystery Science Theater 3000 called Mitchell... Man was that ever funny!!! I love MST3K.
Cheers, Tim Cryptkeeper9

Hendrix. I'm not sure if this was a made for TV movie or not. It was a low budget movie, but not all that bad. Aside from the fact that the guy who played Hendrix had no concept of how to play a guitar. It was pretty factual, but dealt mostly with the early days and ran pretty quick through Band of Gypsies and Woodstock. Not much detail on the death either. For the story alone 4/5. HULU has this on its Drama channel.

LAND OF THE LOST - 2009
A big-budget box office bomb, based on the Saturday morning TV series from the 70's. Film critics tore into this movie, which likely caused people-(including myself)-to avoid it. Will Ferrell is his typical goofy self, playing a scientist who's laughed at for his theories about time travel and alternate dimensions. Enter pretty student-scientist Anna Friel, who has proof of Ferrell theories, and the adventure soon gets underway. Along with a shady-wanna-be tourist guide, they enter the "land of the lost', which is a parallell dimension, where objects-(like cars and buildings) from our world, suddenly appear in a prehistoric place. Like the 70's TV show, there's ape-people and lizard-people, but the similarities pretty much end there. The film wisely plays everything for laughs-(unlike the TV show)- and it worked for me, I was laughing more often than not. I don't know what kind of expectations the critics had, but I felt the film was entertaining. Suprisingly too, is the humor is geared more towards adults.
My take 2.5/5 worthwhile Will Ferrell flick, would love to see an R-rated or unrated version, since it was edited to get a PG-13 rating.

The Covenant. Anything w/a bit of Taylor Kitsch(Friday Night Lights & X-Men Origins-Wolverine fame)in it...esp. shirtless, is AL-right by me. Is a good storyline, too.
