Thanks for this, SJ. I'll be looking forward to it. There was that old saying in the '60's: There's Dylan & Hendrix & them there's everybody else.

Thanks, Miss Dee. I've never been much for radio, 'specially DVE, but maybe I'll tune in next time I'm in the car.

Anybody heard this yet? Reviews range from enthusiastic to lukewarm. I can't buy it coz I think I'm getting it for my birthday. I've heard the little clips of the songs at CD Universe. The song DVE is playing is Bleeding Heart. If you have a copy of Jimi Hendrix's Blues, it's on there. I haven't bought it because how many versions of Hear My Train A'Comin, Red House, and Stone Free does a person need ? They really don't vary all that much. I love Hendrix, but re-rehashing old material boils down to greed. Now if they sold the CD for maybe $5, I may be interested. When you stop and look at it, there's only 3 or 4 songs that are new and they don't sound finished to me.

Yeah, generally I agree with that, but I'd like to hear Jimi's take on "Sunshine of Your Love," which I think is a great song. I do have Blues. It seems that when this one was announced, it was claimed that some great treasures were discovered, but now that seems not to be true. Oh, well, a few warmed-over Hendrix tracks are still probably better than most of the crap that's out today.

My brief review of Valleys of Neptune, the new Hendrix album. I like it.
Here's what it's not. It's not, unlike some other posthumous Hendrix releases, a bunch of raw tracks "enhanced" by adding musicians that didn't even know Hendrix. It's not light years away from the artist's apparent original intentions, like so many posthumous Buddy Holly releases. It's not a collection of unfinished table scraps like the Beatles' Anthology series.
This is just Hendrix & his band, whether it be the Experience or the Band of Gypsies. It's real & honest, which are important criteria for me. Great stuff. I love the song where Jimi's guitar is fed thru an organ speaker. I love the whole thing, altho' it's true that the versions of "Stone Free," "Fire," & "Red House" aren't as good as the familiar versions. But they're good 'nuff for me.
Somebody once said of '60's music, "There's Dylan & Hendrix & everybody else." How true.

I sent for this along with the new Jeff Beck and another Beck I was missing, through Amazon. If you order $25 worth of stuff, you get free shipping. I'm expecting it in the next few days.

Let me know how you like the new Jeff Beck album. I'm told that there's some orchestration on it.

I see that they're re releasing " Blues " in a few days. This deluxe edition comes with an extra disc of blues. No clue as to what those blues are. His sister is really grabbing for that cash. Releasing it just before the Christmas rush. Just about everything he did was based on the blues, so it could be anything. Again, I would have to hear it before I bought it, since I already have Blues.
They're also re releasing the BBC Sessions with an extra disc. As always, I'd like to hear some of the new disc first. At what point is it enough money ? Its to the point of robbing the grave. It baffles me.

Before I buy this one, I might wait & see what others think.
The demand for Jimi's stuff, some 40 years after his death, is amazing.

OK, from what it says on CD Universe, the second disc of the Blues is a DVD called "Hendrix and the Blues." As many of you know, Hendrix was into filming, almost as much as recording material. This could be anything. I'll stick to the Jimi Hendrix film and Rainbow Bridge, or better yet, the new Anthony Phillips CD. These days, acoustic guitar pleases my ears more than feedback.

Man, Jimi's sister is really glowing with greed. Another, yes another collection of alternate takes on songs we've heard other alternate takes of. This time we get 4 CD's of tracks ranging from when Hendrix was a backup musician ( Isley Bros, Little Richard and others ). Most of these came out in hordes a year or so after his death. There are alternate takes of Hear My Train A'Comin' , Foxey Lady, Voodoo Chile and more. Plus you get a DVD ! All for the low, low price of $57 from Amazon. I think I'll pass this time. Jimi's sister can take somebody else's money. Jeez......... when is it enough ? The title of this latest jem is West Coast Seattle Boy : The Jimi Hendrix Anthology.

I'll at least give the Hendrix family credit for releasing the stuff in an unadulterated form, but this collection doesn't seem essential, & at that price tag, I'll skip it. How many alternate takes of these songs does one need to hear?
If the Hendrix family really wants to put out some quality unreleased stuff, they oughta focus on some of the live recordings which circulate. No, there's not an awful lot of high quality concert bootlegs out there, but there's some. A good place to start would be the 1968 Fillmore East concert.
