Sorry but that crap last week about the cabinets was preposterous. Someone did that to my house, they'd be in jail. Or dead. Megadesk was more in keeping with what Dwight could realistically get away with. As for Michael, you may be right. It could be that I just have had my fill of him and now want to shove a knife in his eye and stir his useless brains a little... i see your point with the cabinets. but it's a matter of how far your imagination is willing to go. it was acceptable to me but i can totally understand the latter. i loved Megadesk. you're right that between the two incidents, that was the more realistic one.

As noted previously, I never started watching The Office until a few months ago, so I'm catching up with old reruns simultaneously with watching the present season whenever I can get away with it. Just saw the most recent episode on demand last night. I was amused at "Mega-Desk," which was absurd, but I enjoy absurdity (as tho' that needed explained). This season seems more farcical that those previous, from what I can tell. Taken by itself, it works quite well as a farce. The rest of you don't see it that way coz you have the previous seasons as a frame of reference.

Last week's episode (4/29) was GREAT!!! Best in a long time.

Loved Kelly's answer when Dwight suggested to her that the cops were constantly pulling her over because of her skin color.

I just read that next season, #7, will be Steve Carell's last, altho' the show is gonna continue without him.
He's gonna concentrate on his movie career. I hope it works out. I think it will given that he's made a number of good movies (altho' Dinner for Schmucks doesn't look like it's gonna be one of 'em). But I remember cast members from SNL & Laugh-In leaving their shows to "make movies." For every Dan Akroyd & John Belushi, there was a Larraine Newman or Garrett Morris who was never heard from again. For every Goldie Hawn, there was a Judy Carne. Anyways.....
Any speculation as to how they'll write Michael Scott out of the show? Or who will get the position as regional mgr.? Will they give the job to one of the present characters or will they create a new character to take the job?
I'm gonna go out on a limb & say that I'd like to see Creed get the job. It's the only way I can think of to keep the basic premise of the show, i.e., an idiotic boss who impedes his employees' efforts to get work done. Otherwise we'll be watching everybody sitting around selling paper all day.

Even though I enjoy the Dwight and Big Tuna combo more than Micheal, he still was a huge part of my viewing enjoyment. Sad really, it's a good show. A little on the lower side of funny lately but still good.

Once this afternoon's Pirate game got outta hand, I started to think of past instances where the star of the show left & the show continued on without him or her. Of course, I stopped watching much TV sometime during the mid-'70's, but here's what I came up with:
The Andy Griffith Show They renamed it Mayberry RFD after Andy left, creating a new character played by Ken Berry in the lead role. It wasn't very funny, but even in its final year Andy had deteriorated. Barney Fife had left & Andy's character had become grumpy & impatient. By the time RFD rolled around, Floyd the Barber was gone, too. Howard Sprague & Emmett the Fix-It Man just weren't as funny as the departed characters.
Welcome Back, Kotter Gabe Kaplan held out during the final season for a better contract, which never came---coz the final season was so bad the show got canceled. The writers made the fatal mistake of pretending that Kotter was still there & never shot any scenes in the classroom, where most of the funny stuff used to happen. In hindsight they shoulda just created a substitute teacher to deal with the Sweathogs until they could agree to terms with Kaplan. Vinnie Barbarino was gone, too, & replaced with a weak character. That didn't help.
Sanford & Son The year that Redd Foxx held out for more money, they kept the show going by saying that Fred was in St. Louis on some vague family business & putting Fred's friend Grady, previously a background character, in the role of running the junk business & taking care of Lamont. Grady stepped up to the plate & was quite hilarious. I enjoyed these shows as much as the ones with Fred.
And the results of my scientific study: If there are enough funny characters, old & new, & the writing is still good, The Office will be just fine.
Don't thank me. It's what I do.

Don't forget the Hogan Family - Valerie Harper was the star and it was called Valerie's Family but then she left because she wanted more money. They killed her off after the second season, brought in Sandy Duncan and renamed it The Hogan Family. It ran 4 years after Harper left.

I confess to never having heard of that show before, what with my general unawareness of almost anything that happened in the pop culture during the past 35 years, but it's another good example. Thanks for participating in my scientific study!

I caught the first 2 episodes of the new season on demand recently. I think they were funnier than last season.
So nobody wants to speculate on who will take over Michael Scott's job next year? How about Kelly? It would keep with the general "idiotic boss" theme of the show, & after all, she did go thru minority executive training. Maybe there was a good reason why that was written into the show?

Anybody else notice how all of the recurring themes seem to be gradually eroding away? First Pam dissolves the Party Planning Committee. Then Michael gets wise to Ryan. Now Michael falls out with Packer & lets him go on a wild goose chase to Tallahassee. What's next?

That first minute or 2 last night showing Creed as mgr. had to be among the funniest minute or 2 in TV history.

That first minute or 2 last night showing Creed as mgr. had to be among the funniest minute or 2 in TV history. The Creed moments last night stole the show. I wasn't impressed with the parade of interviews, especially since they were being touted so much ahead of time. I would have rather been surprised by them.
