Fantastic Mr. Fox!!!!!!!! it's totes not a real kids' movie. lots of it felt very grown-up. and, yes, it's stop motion and yes it's old-skool stop motion and it's gorgeous and many many very good cameos by actors (bill murray as fox's lawyer -- a badger). i won't lie: i cried. oh, and i didn't realize that it's based on a Roald Dahl story, so that should give you a sense of its tone & upshot. just like charlie & the chocolate factory has those darker, more grown-up things circling around the fringes, so does this. very worthwhile.

Good to know. Glad you got to see it, given my failure to follow thru on the first attempt. I'll catch it eventually, but time simply does not permit at present. For a guy with no fucking job, I'm pretty busy...

Sherlock Holmes. Yes! Hawt! i really enjoyed it. to be fair, i haven't read a Holmes story in about 4 years, so i'm a little rusty on how Conan Doyle constructed his world & characters, but I still greatly enjoyed all the 19th c. goodness. the fight scenes are amazing & the score is top-notch. and, of course, i got a total hardon for the wallpaper. good setting. costumes. character. fun. and some amazing camera work. not sure i really like rachel mcadams very much, but her character was strong & interesting. the holmes/watson closeness was well played. and holmes' observational skillz were nicely incorporated -- creatively -- without being overdone.

C'mon, tell the truth. We all know that you are not permitted in any theaters or other establishments what show movies in the Pittsburgh area. I'm not sure that yer even allowed to be in this tahn. Stop pissing at us and tell the truth. We all know you really went to see "I Bury the Living" starring Richard Boone at the "The Shirley Booth Lingus Palace" in Terre Haute. Now.

Now. alas, even terre haute refuses to welcome me into any movie viewing establishments. i've been forced to gird my loins in thinly sliced olive loaf & cuddle up in the newly remodeled ladies' room at bobby's with a viewfinder & whatever visual treats mutton chops is kind enough to bring my way. it's not that bad, though i do have to flail my arms wildly every 12 seconds because the automatic light keeps switching off. fuck that shit.

( I am a bit behind, I am just seeing these now ) Zombieland: I enjoyed it .. I rather liked Woody's Character. Coulda shown more creative ways to go postal on the zombies as far as he goes, but still was a decent flick in my opinion .. still, It don't hold a candle to Shawn of the Dead .
Saw 6 : .. ok moving on now ....
I sell the dead: this is my sort of morbid humor, so I give it a top rating just for existing.

LAND OF THE LOST (2009)
Not too bad. Will Ferrell and Danny McBride are hilarious and totally make the movie. never really got into the tv show so i wasn't very critical to compare but my friends say the show was weird too.

SPEED RACER (2008)
i avoided this movie like the plague when it first came out. i didn't care one bit about seeing it and assumed it would be just another lousy tv-to-movie piece of crap. but... i ended up watching it recently and i loved it. it was just like the cartoon!!! everything in it was like watching a cartoon but with live people. it was cool and fun and the storyline was good too. if you know anything about the cartoon then you should be able to enjoy this movie. i watched it three times already!

I enjoyed this far more than expected as well. From the visuals emphasized in the previews, I thought it'd be a hyper-annoying video-game-y mess, but it wasn't. It was a faithful adaptation of a childhood favorite. Unlike Transformers (which I was far too old to have enjoyed in its original form), Speed Racer didn't give me a migraine from struggling to interpret the jumble I was watching into some kind of sensible, sequential action.

Groundhog Day - never saw it before. Very funny and cute. Would have been better without all the stupid High School Reunion commercials on TVLand.
